Waverley Housing Options Consultation PDF Print E-mail

27 January 2010 to 10 March 2010

Waverley Borough Council is preparing its plan to guide where new homes and other forms of development should go. They are required by the South East Plan to provide for at least 5,000 new homes in Waverley in the period from 2006 to 2026.

The Council has stated that they would like the help of the residents in meeting the challenge of deciding where these new homes should go.

Information on this consultation is available by clicking on the following link to the Council’s website -

The Council’s website invites residents to complete a questionnaire indicating which of five proposed options for the location of new homes they prefer or, if none, their alternative preference.

Option 5 is –

“Development within the main settlements of Farnham (including Badshot Lea), Godalming, Haslemere and Cranleigh with any shortfall being met by a new freestanding settlement.”

In their notes on this Option 5 the Council state that “The Dunsfold Park scheme failed on appeal due to the unsustainable location of the site…”. See the Council’s summary document – Where should Waverley’s new housing go? at -

You may feel that because the planning application for a new town at Dunsfold Park was turned down by the Government on appeal, following overwhelming opposition by the local residents, there is no risk of the scheme being revived. This is not so.  If you remain a supporter of the Stop Dunsfold Park New Town campaign we urge you to take part in the consultation and complete the Council’s questionnaire at -

indicating which, if any, of the proposed options you support. However, wherever else you feel that the new homes should be located, you should state in the text box headed “Do you have any other comments on the options for housing or the supporting documents and evidence?”.that you strongly oppose a new freestanding settlement at Dunsfold Park.

The consultation ends on 10 March.

Mr Richard Moore (Hascombe)
"I find it staggering that such an area of outstanding beauty, bordering a conservation area, can be considered for such an unnecessary development as this. There is not a shortage of housing in this part of the country and it seems that the only purpose of constructing this new town, is purely commercial. It goes without saying, that roads in this area, already plagued with HGV traffic, in spite of road signs, leading to and through Hascombe, say "Unsuitable for HGV traffic" will become overburdened and, more importantly, dangerous to horseriders, car drivers and residents. I strongly oppose any development, such as that proposed."
