Public Inquiry now completed – decision to be made by Government Minister by 28 September 2009.

Why is it all happening so fast? Is there a conflict of interest because of RBS’s involvement with Dunsfold Park? Will our roads soon be swamped with more cars? Will local democracy be overridden?

The public inquiry has now closed and the report of the Inspector, due to be submitted to the Secretary of State, is the next milestone to be reached. We do not know when this will take place but we do know that the DCLG has announced that the SoS will make a decision on or before the 28th September 2009. Such a short period of time to consider such a complex proposal.

Meanwhile the campaign does not rest. Dunsfold Park submitted some late information regarding the traffic assessment on which we have sent our comments to the Inspector. The war of words continues in the Press and we are actively promoting the facts in this proposed development.

  • Traffic will increase significantly; the only debate is by how much. Many minor roads in the vicinity, some of them single track, will be affected in addition to the A281 – something overlooked by the developer’s transport assessment.
  • The nearest railway station is over 10 miles away.
  • The proposed new bus routes will not be fully introduced until 60% of the houses are built – that will be after 10 years. They will be subsidised by the untried cordon charge on vehicles exiting the New Town.
  • The Royal Bank of Scotland has had two Directors on the Board of Dunsfold Park Ltd since 2002 who both resigned the week before the Public Inquiry began. Its continued involvement as a 50% shareholder is unclear, although it has lent at least £44 million to DPL according to the latest publicly available figures, secured on real estate assets worth £37m.
  • The Government, through UKFI, now owns over 67% of RBS. The Government has also decided to make the final decision on this planning application. This is a potential conflict of interest.
  • Since the Public Inquiry closed the South East Plan has been adopted by the Secretary of State and in it there is no mention of Dunsfold Park in its plans for housing development in the region.

This Campaign has pledged to fight the proposals all the way. To do this we need financial support. Please donate by sending a cheque to SDPNT Ltd. PO Box 717 Dunsfold Surrey GU8 4WF

Mr & Mrs Ian Clark (Dunsfold)

"We completely support the aims of the campaign against the New Town development. It is astonishing that a scheme of such a patently inappropriate nature is under consideration. The interests of Rutland Group must not be allowed to destroy the special rural feel of this corner of Surrey. The problems such a development would create for current and future residents of the area would be enormous - from traffic to pollution to water use.
